This image shows vortices in the clouds downwind from Guadalupe Island in the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of Baja California. This view is near the western edge of a NOAA-14 pass so shows some loss of resolution on the western side. The centers of the first two vortices are about 80 km apart.
AVHRR channels 1, 2, and 4 were colored red, green, and blue. Channel 4 was reversed to make the clouds more white.

A wake downwind from the island is visible in this image. The wind speed is not high enough to form vortices.
