Oregon

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.
This view is somewhat fuzzy, especially on the western side since it is near the limit of the satellite coverage for this pass. A few scatter fire areas are indicated by the yellow-green smoke plumes.

Hell's Canyon area

The southwest section of this image shows Oregon, bordered on the east by Idaho and the north by Washington. Smoke from the hell's Canyon fire shows as a bright yellow-green area in the middle of this image. The yellow spots to the southwest are snow areas on the Wallowa Mountains, and the yellow-green areas further southwest are more smoke plumes. Some activity appears on the 10 day old fire scar due east of Hell's Canyon at the Idaho border.

Enterprise, Oregon, is near the red area just west of Hell's canyon. It is the home of the Wallowa County Chieftain, which is updated on thursdays so may contain some information on the fires in the area.

California and Nevada

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.
Nevada shows no major smoke plumes, just a few scatter clouds and a number of bright dry lake beds and salt flats.

California is not covered well by this pass but does show a line of clouds along the Sierra Nevada range. The fires near Yosemite National Park show smoke (yellow-green here) blowing westward in this image.

Idaho

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.
The only large area of smoke visible on this image is in Hell's Canyon. Some smoke is seen in a small area due east along the state border. There may be some scattered smaller plumes but they are not clear enough to be sure. Glacier National Park is visible in Montana at the Canadian border.

Wyoming

Good color composite view of
Yellowstone National Park has a small area in Idaho but is mainly in Wyoming. No fire activity is seen in this view but it does show Yellowstone Lake as the large black area and Jackson Lake to the southwest. The Teton range borders Jackson Lake on the west.

Washington

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.
Very little, if any, fire activity is visible. Some small possible smoke plumes are seen in the south central part of the state, but this view is inconclusive. A wealth of landforms may be seen but time does not permit describing them.
