Oregon

Hell's Canyon area

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.

Hell's Canyon still shows a lot of smoke. Fires to the southwest are still burning as are the smaller fires in eastern Idaho. Note the navigation on this image is slightly off, the underlying image should be shifted slightly southwest to match the boundaries. This is more clearly seen on the channel 3 image.

AVHRR Channel 3.

Some of the fires show up in this image as bright areas. Apparently some fires are too small to show in this view even though the color composite image shows what looks like smoke. Note the minor image navigation error, the image should be shifted slightly to the southwest. This is best seen in the bend of the Snake River in Hell's Canyon. Such minor position errors are not uncommon near the limits of coverage. The errors were reduced elsewhere in the coverage.

Idaho

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.
What appear to be scattered smoke plumes are visible in this image. Some certainly are, such as the Hell's Canyon area and due east near the border. Other may be but are less certain. The whitish spots near the north end of the state are probably clouds catching the low evening sunlight.

AVHRR Channel 3.

Some of what appear to be small smoke plumes on the color composite image do not show corresponding hot spots in this image. Some of the smoke may be from fires too small to show in channel 3 at this resolution.

Utah

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.
The smoke plume from the fire north of Cedar City in southwest Utah is partially hidden by clouds. Smoke is visible from a new fire halfway between Eureka and Delta Utah. This is in or near the Little Sahara Recreation Area.

AVHRR Channel 3.

The new fire shows well in this image. The locations of Eureka and Delta are also shown.
