This image was aquired by NOAA 12 at 01:00 UT over the western U.S.
This was an evening pass.
Map of the pass
Channel 3 view of the data
Clouds are black over the center and eastern side. On the western side
they are partially illuminated by the low sun.
Much of this pass was clouded, very little fire activity is seen.
Idaho
AVHRR Channel 3.
Clouds partially illuminated by the low evening sun complicate this view.
Two bright spots appear at about 47N (+/-) just west of the ID/WA state
border. Another bright spot appears at about 45N east of the OR/ID
state border. Two small bright spots are seen in southeastern Idaho.
The one more to the west is persistent and very likely not a fire.
Eastern Montana
AVHRR Channel 3.
The fire at the west end of Fort Peck Lake in central Montana is still
visible.
Last night's channel 3 view (439 Kb)
Southern Manitoba, Eastern North Dakota, Northern Minnesota
AVHRR Channel 3.
A number of small bright spots appear on this image. The nature of these
spots is not certain from this single image. The next available pass,
channel 3 view next morning
(469 Kb), does not show most of these bright spots except the
northernmost one (the streak is a scan line dropout). A
color composite does
not show any obvious smoke, perhaps a small bit for the northernmost
spot (also what look like small sections of jet contrails and their
shadows are seen near the NW corner of this image).
