1996 Aug 23 14:37 UT NOAA-12 morning pass over the west. Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana are covered. The smoke has greatly cleared from these areas. Idaho and Montana show a lot of detail in the images.

1996 Aug 24 14:14 UT NOAA-12 morning pass over the west. Only a morning view of the Hell's Canyon area and Yellowstone are given on this page. A small fire northeast of Yellowstone is seen.

1996 Aug 25 09:59 UT NOAA-14 night pass over the west. This pass covers parts of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming. Oregon is the most active for this pass, Idaho shows some activity in the areas of previous fires. Washington has two new fires, British Columbia shows one fire area. The small fire northeast of Yellowstone Park is still visible.

1996 Aug 29 09:13 UT NOAA-14 night pass over the west. Fire near Atomic City, ID, Nevada fires appear larger but less numerous, Wyoming partly blocked by clouds but some fires still burn, the medium size fire in southern California appears larger.

1996 Sep 01 00:43 UT NOAA-12 evening pass over the west. The central Idaho fire appears more intense. The fire in Yellowstone National Park grows.

1996 Sep 01 14:41 UT NOAA-12 morning pass over the west. Not much smoke is seen in these views but a number of recent fire scars may be identified. The small Yellowstone fire apears to be shrinking. A pair of NOAA-12 morning views of Yellowstone have been assembled into a cross-eyed stereo pair.

1996 Sep 03 10:01 UT NOAA-14 night pass over the northwest. Clouds block part of the view but the large fires in northeastern Oregon are seen and another fire in northern Yellowstone is visible.

1996 Sep 04 01:19 UT NOAA-12 evening pass over the west. Clouds block parts of the view. Southern California still shows the fires near Yosemite and two smaller fires farther south in the Sierras. Fires are seen near Great Salt Lake in Utah.

1996 Sep 05 00:56 UT NOAA-12 evening pass over the west. Fires are visible in Wyoming and southern Montana. Fires are seen in and near Yellowstone.

1996 Sep 05 09:44 UT NOAA-14 night pass over the northwest. Some of the fires in and near Wyoming are visible between scattered clouds.

1996 Sep 06 09:27 UT NOAA-14 night pass over the west. No prominent fires were seen in this pass. Time did not permit creating images but the data was inspected. Traces of older fires were barely visible near Yosemite CA, in central Idaho, and northeast of Yellowstone near Alpine MT. Clouds obscured the Bighorns in WY and much of UT.

1996 Sep 07 09:21 UT NOAA-14 night pass over the west. No prominent fires were seen in this pass. The fires near Yosemite were just visible. The small hot spot west of Owens Lake is still seen. A small hot spot in southern Arizona will be watched.

1996 Sep 08 13:46 UT NOAA-12 morning pass over the west. A number of small bright spots are visible on this pass and several previous passes. A search was made for visible smoke with negative results for all but a few questionable cases. Image display will resume when something worth showing is found.

1996 Sep 08 20:34 UT NOAA-14 daytime pass over the west. This pass shows well the scars from many of the recent fires. No obvious smoke was noted but links comparing the scars to the channel 3 views of the fires are given.

Two small fires in southern California are seen, one or too small fires in northern Baja, and small fires in southern Arizona, central Nevada, and central Montana. Clouds block much of the rest of the view and most likely obscure other fires.

1996 Sep 14 01:00 UT NOAA-12 evening pass over the west. Clouds cover much of the view, very little fire activity is seen. The Fort Peck Lake fire still burns. Scattered bright spots are seen in eastern North Dakota and Southern Manitoba but most may not be fires, they are not seen the next morning.

1996 Nov 12 18:45 UT NOAA-14 day pass over the east. A large number of bright spots are seen in the channel 3 images of a number of eastern and southern states. These are probably due to agricultural burning.
