This image was acquired by the AVHRR sensor of the NOAA-14 satellite on 1998 Jan 28 16:57 UT. AVHRR channels 1, 2, and 4 were combined as green, red, and blue, channel 4 was reversed to make the clouds white.

The island of Newfoundland dominates the southern half of this image. The land to the northwest is Quebec (the southern part) and Labrador, both appearing dark from pine forests which hide the underlying snow. Clouds appear white and blue-white in this view. Floating sea ice appears pale yellow and dull pink and on the seaward side breaks into a filamentary pattern

The image below shows more of the Labrador Sea.

This image below from the same satellite pass and shows more of the Labrador Sea. The southern tip of Greenland is visible near the northeast corner. Floating sea ice along the east side of Greenland appears bright yellow here. On the west side of this image the coast of Labrador is fringed with floating sea ice. Clouds may be seen forming as the wind blows from the west out over the water.
