This image was acquired at 3:00 AM EST on the morning of
Jan 21, 1997. The state of Florida and some of the surrounding
water is cloud-free. Land is shown as it appears in AVHRR channel
3, mid infrared (3.55 to 3.93 microns). Water is shown by its
surface temperature, the color key is shown in the bottom
right corner of the image (unreadable except in the full image
- it ranges from about 8.5 to 26.5 deg C).
Some clouds are seen over parts of
the water and they show up in this image as gray patches or
colored speckled areas.
The warm Gulf Stream is seen curving around the southern tip
of Florida and north along the coast. It appears to warm the
beaches as far north as West Palm Beach.
The full size image
shows a lot of detail. The water shows delicate swirls where it
is visible in the Gulf between the clouds and land.
