This view of part of the Gulf Stream was acquired by NOAA-14 on 1997 Oct 06 at 19:17 UT (3:17 PM EDT). Two of the 5 channels of the AVHRR image sensor were used to compute surface temperature of the water. Channel 2, near infrared, was used for land and clouds. The black border around land and clouds is a processing artifact.
