This view of part of the Gulf Stream was acquired by NOAA-14 on 1997 Oct 07 at 07:40 UT (3:40 AM EDT). Two of the 5 channels of the AVHRR image sensor were used to compute surface temperature of the water. Channel 3, mid-infrared, was used for land and clouds. This view was processed to avoid the black border around land but some small clouds have slipped through over the water along the south and east sides of the image. A closeup view of the eddy shows a bit more detail.
