RESEARCH/WORK EXPERIENCE:

Dr. Chapman joined the professional staff of The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in June 1977. He returned to graduate school full time in 1987 to pursue a degree in Physical Oceanography. Upon completion of his degree he returned to APL in May 1987.

Dr. Chapman's experience ranges from instrumentation development to conduct of field programs to data analysis. His current research interests include radar backscatter statistics, SAR interferometry and surface wave and near-surface current dynamics.

Dr. Chapman has written a book, entitled The Practical Oceanographer - A Guide to Working At Sea, based on his at sea experiences over the past 15 years. This book is available at the above referenced web site.

In addition, Dr. Chapman has recently worked with Marshall Jose to develop a novel, low-power disdrometer - a device for measuring rain drop size distrinutions. Click here to access the reports on this instrument.
