The SAR and X-band Ocean Nonlinearities Experiment (SAXON) was a joint German/American experiment conducted in November, 1990 in the North Sea on and near the German Forschungsplatform Nordsee (FPN). The primary objective of SAXON-FPN was to investigate radar backscatter and SAR imagery at a variety of microwave frequencies and higher sea-state conditions. The above figure shows a schematic of the Forshungsplatform Nordsee (dismantled in 1993) where the ONR-sponsored SAXON-FPN experiment was conducted.
